Call for Participants – Byeolsinal

The 62nd Suwon Hwaseong Festival is recruiting participants for Byeolsinal (別試), a reenactment of King Jeongjo’s special civil service examination for selecting talented individuals.

Experience the unique charm of a Joseon-era examination, reinterpreted with wit and humor, and challenge yourself for the top honor at the Suwon Hwaseong Festival – now a global cultural event beyond Suwon’s representative festival!

✔ What is Byeolsinal (別試)?
A citizen participation performance and experience program that humorously reinterprets the special examination conducted by King Jeongjo to recruit talented scholars.

🔳 Event Overview

• Date & Time: Oct. 3 (Fri), 2025 – 11:00 / 14:00 / 17:00 (3 sessions)

• Venue: Hwaseong Haenggung Square, Suwon

🔳 Application Overview

• Application Period: Aug. 25 (Mon) – Sept. 26 (Fri), 2025

• Eligibility: Anyone of school age or older
  (Pre-school children may also apply if they can read and write)

• Capacity: 40 participants per session (first-come, first-served)
  (Online applications will automatically close once each session is full)

• Selected on a first-come, first-served basis from submitted applications

• Individual notifications will be sent between Sept. 27 (Sat) – Oct. 2 (Thu), 2025
